Radio 2 Hyde Park
|
Off to Hyde Park today. Taking our 7 year old to her first festival. Sure she'll love it (especially as she's force fed ELO in the car!
Any of you cunts going?

You wouldn't expect JL to be a charismatic front man tbf. ELO were more in the mode of bands like Floyd, where the music did its own talking and the band would be quite laid back on stage.
JL seems to have always seen himself as 'one of many required to perform the music' as was the case at Hyde Pk. When you think of ELO tracks you think first of the music, not the band / JL.
Unlike (for example) Queen, or Rod Stewart, in their day; when you think of their stuff you immediately think first of Freddie / Rod strutting around with the mike stand etc.
Different animals.

Both spot on. JL was overwhelmed and consequently statuesque. If he can become a little more engaging as a front man then their gigs would be awesome. Needs to take a few tips from Billy Ocean who wowed the audience.

I work in the live music biz and a show the size of that is timed down to the last second
Including all the talky bits

They were spot on musically but it had no energy for me

Bound to be a bit rusty after a long lay-off.
I think JL was also completely overwhelmed by the size and response from the crowd. He must have commented on it at least 5 times between songs.

Played all the great stuff but lacked some energy from Jeff for me, I know him and Tandy are getting on though

It was a great concert. Us oldies do them so much better than the younger generation who seem to think they've invented the live gig scene.

Just Lynne and Tandy... Bevan has retired and after years of legal battles, he sold his rights to the ELO name and now Jeff can use it .... Saw him at the Concert for George but it was great to hear him finally do his own stuff

Who Tandy or Wood?
Anyway, I think both were original members?

Just Tandy I think. To be honest, I don't remember him in the original band!

I'm seeing Jeff Lynne, but I'm struggling to spot anything vaguely recognisable as ELO.
